Watching the storm

Tornadic debris and hook echoes were part of our conversation that night. It was late, but one of those Texas super storms was making its way to town and we were watching the weather reports closely. A tornado was a possibility, so obviously we wanted to be alert. It had been a long day and I was exhausted. I really wanted and needed to go to sleep. While my husband and I were talking, I mentioned how tired I was and asked him if he thought I needed to stay awake. He lovingly told me not to worry about it, that he would keep watching the storm and I could go to sleep. I kissed him good night and went to bed thinking how wonderful it was that I could go to sleep in peace because my husband was watching over his family, making sure we were all ok through the night during that massive storm. In the morning there was evidence that a big storm had gone by, but there was no tornado and I had had a restful night of much needed sleep.

In Psalm 4 king David speaks of a time of distress in his life when he asked God for relief. He ends his psalm explaining how he can sleep in peace because God was watching over him.
How often do we experience distress in this world? Many, many times. In fact, too many although in a world of sin that is most likely normal. Often I think that it is really by the grace of God that good things happen to us, because if it were left to Satan he would make sure we were in a constant state of misery and suffering. But even though the devil works hard at bringing us grief and distress, we have a God who is watching over us, who says we have nothing to worry about because He is watching the storm. All we have to do is rest in Him.

During your times of trouble remember that God, who loves you more than anything, is watching over you making sure you are all ok during the massive life storms that go by. Just like David we can say with confidence: "In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety." Psalm 4:8

Trasured Moments

My day began early, just as the sun was giving a slight hint of its impending coming. I sat in the quietness of the living room looking...
